Cordane Richardson is a “multifaceted sound organizer.” His superior level versatility stems from his varied musical experiences and perhaps more impressively, his tenure as a music student which began at age two. Now a composer, Cordane sits comfortably on the cutting edge of music, taking a well-calculated yet emotive approach to his compositions. He masterfully blends instrumentalism with his technological prowess to craft stimulating musical works, sometimes with slight nuances and Easter eggs to tease the most discerning listener.

Raised on the Caribbean island of Anguilla, Cordane’s eardrums digested a potent blend of rhythms and melodies which came primarily from the reggae, dancehall, zouk and soca genres. Though Caribbean genres were the most popular on the island, he was also able to gain influence from American pop, rock and hip-hop. Observing the structural knowledge of popular music floating in his environment, combined with his daily lessons in classical piano from his mother, Cordane was able to cultivate a unique point of view and approach to composition. His first attempts began around age twelve. By his mid-teens, Cordane had already completed all levels of the ABRSM piano and music theory examinations. These examinations would give him his first formal encounters with composition.

In 2018, Cordane graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts with a focus on music. His journey there would expose him to the brilliant minds and instruction of Miller Puckette, Tom Erbe, and Brett Stalbaum, among others. Cordane spent three years refining his computer music and digital art skills. During his tenure, he created and collaborated on various projects that explored the intersection of art and technology. One such project was an augmented reality installation, based on Vernor Vinge’s book ‘Rainbows End.’ This project was supported by the Arthur C. Clarke Center for Human Imagination, for whom Cordane had the honor of composing two musical pieces.

After completing his undergraduate studies, Cordane immediately pursued a master’s degree in Scoring for Film, Television, and Video Games, at Berklee Valencia. While at Berklee, he again collaborated with other musicians. He composed and recorded a plethora of classical and hybrid scores. He also collaborated with a game development team to create and implement music and sound effects for the original PC game, ‘Avalo Legends’. Cordane’s time at Berklee culminated in a session at AIR Studios where he recorded an original composition, ‘Cadence of the Swarm’ in 2019. Currently residing in London, Cordane continues to produce music both individually and collaboratively. He hopes to use his talents to not only leave his mark in the world of entertainment, but also to spark a more varied interest in the arts throughout his native Anguilla, and the wider world.
